What restroom should I rent for an outdoor wedding?
A 5- to 6-hour reception with a bar needs 3 standard porta potties for up to 50 guests, 5 for up to 100 guests and 7 for up to 150, plus hand washing. A 2-stall restroom trailer does the work of about 5 standard units, so it suits about 100 guests. Bigger weddings pair the trailer with standard units.
| Guests (5–6 hours, bar) | Standard setup | Upgraded setup |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 50 | 3 standard + 1 hand washing station | 2-stall restroom trailer |
| 51–100 | 5 standard + 2 hand washing stations | 2-stall restroom trailer |
| 101–150 | 7 standard + 2 hand washing stations | Trailer + 2 standard units |
| 151–200 | 10 standard + 3 hand washing stations | Trailer + 5 standard units |
Math: 1 unit per 50 guests per 4-hour block (2 blocks for 5–6 hours), plus 1 for every 4 units because alcohol is served. Deluxe flushing units handle about 35–40 guests each over 4 hours, so swap them in for small weddings.
What does a restroom trailer need at the venue?
A restroom trailer needs three things at the venue: level ground about 8 by 14 feet with room for our truck to back it in, a garden hose connection, and a dedicated standard 110-volt outdoor outlet within 50 feet. Without power, a generator can be added. No sewer hookup is needed.
- Grass, gravel, concrete or asphalt all work if the ground is firm.
- We set it up the day before and test water, flush and lights.
- It is picked up the next business day after the wedding.
- See full details on the restroom trailer page.
How far ahead should I book wedding restrooms?
Book a restroom trailer 1 to 3 months before a summer wedding in the Alexandria lakes area, because June through September Saturdays fill first. Standard and deluxe units usually need 2 to 3 weeks. Booking early also gives time for a site check at barn or lake venues with tight driveways.
Can deluxe flushing units work at a lake or barn venue?
Deluxe flushing units work at most lake and barn venues because they carry their own fresh water and need no hookup. Each one fits a 4-by-4-foot level spot, includes a sink, mirror and soap, and serves about 35–40 guests over 4 hours. Below freezing, the water lines can freeze, so fall weddings after mid-October may need standard units instead.
