What is a wheelchair-accessible porta potty?

A wheelchair-accessible porta potty has a ground-level floor with no step, a wide door, grab bars beside the seat and enough floor for a 60-inch-diameter turning circle inside. Parents with strollers, older guests and anyone who needs more room use it too.

We describe these units as wheelchair-accessible. Whether your full setup meets ADA rules also depends on a firm, level route to the door, so confirm with your venue or permit office.

How many accessible units does an event need?

Under the 2010 ADA Standards §213.2, at least 5% of portable toilets in each cluster must be accessible, and never fewer than 1. An event with 1 to 20 units needs at least 1 accessible unit. An event with 21 to 40 units needs at least 2.

21–402
41–603
61–804

This is the legal minimum for public events. For private parties, we recommend 1 accessible unit whenever a guest uses a wheelchair or walker.

How big is a wheelchair-accessible porta potty?

The wheelchair-accessible unit is about 88 inches wide, 88 inches deep and 90 inches tall, so it needs a level spot about 8 by 8 feet. The door opens wide enough for a standard wheelchair, and the floor sits at ground level. It carries a 60-gallon holding tank.

Typical dimensions for this unit class; exact model can vary by availability. Ask us to confirm measurements if your gate or path is tight.

Where should the accessible unit be placed?

Place the wheelchair-accessible unit on firm, level ground with a smooth path from parking or seating. Grass is fine when dry and short; gravel and soft soil are hard for wheelchairs. Keep the door side clear and set the unit at the end of a row so it is easy to reach.

What else do people ask about wheelchair-Accessible Porta Potty Rental?

Do I need an accessible unit for a private party?

Can construction sites rent accessible units?

Jobsites rent accessible units on the same 28-day terms with weekly service. Some public projects require one on site.
